How will the Mars helicopter take off from the rover

Ingenuity is a Mars helicopter that serves to investigate from the surface air to Mars through the Mars 2020 project. The CG-rendered video released at the end of April shows the scene where the probe launches from Perseverance. The helicopter is placed inside the rover, and according to the newly released video, it comes out of the rover as if giving birth.

The helicopter aircraft is located along with a pair of missing latches that hold the helicopter legs out of the way by opening the protective cover inside the rover. When the helicopter is held vertically at nearly 90 degrees, the last pair of legs is extended and the helicopter leaves the ground at a height of about 15 cm.

Mars has the same flight conditions as Earth at an altitude of 3,480m due to the temperature of the planet at night falling to -90 degrees and the density of the atmosphere. In addition, since the gravity is at the level of 38% of the earth, a harsh environment with 1.8 kg of aircraft weighing 700 g awaits.

Mars 2020 is scheduled to land in the crater with Mars on February 18, 2021. The duration of the mission is within 30 days and can be flown once or more times. Related information can be found here .
