Mercedes to change to touch panel with 27 buttons

Mercedes-Benz announced the second-generation MBUX infotainment system to be installed in the new S-Class.

The system turns 27 physical buttons into a touch screen and supports various execution methods such as voice operation, hand gestures, and gaze.

The first-generation MBUX system that Mercedes-Benz has shown so far was included in the existing center console. However, all models of the S-Class in 2021 will independently arrange a 12.8-inch OLED touch panel like a Tesla car. Meanwhile, all 27 physical function buttons taken from MBUX will be eliminated and a clean console design will be taken.

The new MBUX stores personal profiles in addition to convenient functions such as audio manipulation, seat adjustment and in-vehicle lighting dimming, and can also be used by inheriting settings from other vehicles with the same new MBUX.

In the case of the digital instrument panel beyond the steering wheel, it is equipped with a function that looks three-dimensional without special glasses by linking with a face recognition camera. Color settings, angle information, and driver assistance functions can be adjusted. In addition, a HUD is also attached to the front of the driver to display the navigation instruction in turn-by-turn.

For voice operation, 27 languages are supported. Some functions, including answering incoming calls, should be said to be Hey Mercedes. It also has a smart home link function.

In addition, up to three additional display options can be set in the rear seat, and the display here also supports a three-dimensional function. The rear seat is also equipped with an indicator that indicates which seat person is talking to through AI using voice commands. The S-Class 2021 model with the 2nd generation MBUX will be announced in September. Related information can be found here .
