Mercedes’Inside Nvidia’ on all models after 2024

Nvidia and Mercedes-Benz announced that they will collaborate on the development of a computing system for all next-generation vehicles to be released after 2024. Nvidia says it will be the most advanced computing architecture ever developed for automobiles.

The software system installed in this vehicle computer enables Level 2 to 3 autonomous driving and is said to be more advanced than the current Tesla Autopilot. As for the automatic parking function, it has reached Level 4, and in most parking lots, drivers will be able to park without manipulation.

In any case, the driver’s need to take care of driving when necessary in case of an emergency is no different than before, but in everyday driving situations, the need for driver intervention can be virtually eliminated.

The system is developed based on NVIDIA’s drive platform, which provides near-automation of point-to-point driving. In addition, OTA updates are possible, and additional safety features, apps and subscription services can be updated remotely, at least while the owner owns the car. This is almost the same as the OTA update function currently provided by Tesla.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said he was pleased to work with Mercedes-Benz and said that programming vehicle software and continuing to improve OTA capabilities provide an innovative vehicle ownership experience. It explained that AI experts and engineers will continue to develop and improve future Mercedes-Benz vehicles that will be equipped with NVIDIA drive systems.

Computing technology jointly developed by Nvidia and Mercedes-Benz will be featured in the next model to be released in 2024. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz announced that it will withhold a joint development plan with BMW, which aims to develop technology that can fully autonomously drive highways by 2024. Of course, without denying the resumption of joint development in the future, he explained that in order to prepare for the rapidly changing future environmental problems, he would also seek other possibilities with partners other than the automotive sector.
