McDonald’s launches lineup of artificial meat hamburgers

Demand for alternative meat is increasing in the US, with KFC launching Beyond Fried Chicken, a non-meat fried chicken, and Burger King launching an Impossible Whopper using artificial meat on patties. In the end, according to this trend, McDonald’s is also releasing McPlant, a 100% vegetable product lineup using artificial meat in 2021.

McDonald’s announced on November 9, 2020 (local time) that it will launch a vegetable hamburger called McPlant. Although several companies produce artificial meat that does not use meat and is made only with vegetable ingredients, McPlant plans to use Beyond Meat.

McDonald’s had a test sale of a vegetable hamburger called PLT Burger in Ontario, Canada in early 2020, and among them, hamburgers made with Beyond Meat were particularly popular. In response to the report, Beyond Meat said that Beyond Meat has jointly developed the plant-based properties available on the McPlant platform. However, McDonald’s did not disclose any information on which vendors they use for the McPlant Patty.

While fast food chains are offering vegetable products, McDonald’s McPlant has become a latecomer. McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempchinski said that plant-based products are a modern consumer trend, and what matters at McDonald’s is not whether to sell vegetable hamburgers, but when to sell them.

In addition to hamburgers, the McPlant lineup plans to offer chicken burgers and sandwiches for breakfast. Related information can be found here .
