MediaTek ranked first in the smartphone processor share in the third quarter of 2020. According to a report by market research firm Counterpoint, during this period, more than 100 million smartphones equipped with MediaTek processors were sold, accounting for 31% of the market share. This is a 5% growth rate compared to the same period last year.
On the other hand, Qualcomm, which aims for high-end models in the mid-range and above, was the leader in the share of 5G processors, but the share of the total number of shipments was 29%, a little lower than MediaTek.
Mediatek processors are mainly installed in low-end smartphones, and devices are widely distributed in India, China, and Latin America. In addition, MediaTek, which consigns chip manufacturing to Taiwan-based TSMC, seems to have well resolved the aftermath of the US-China trade war. Related information can be found here .
