The concept design of the second head office of double helix unveiled by Amazon

Amazon has announced the details of its second headquarters building to be built in Arlington, Virginia, USA. The design adopts a structure consisting of a double helix outside the 22-story building, and the roof is treated with green space to appeal to sustainability.

When it comes to double helix, the first thing that comes to mind is the structure of DNA. It is not the Amazon, of course, but a galaxy shape. It is explained as a structure that is often seen in nature, such as weather patterns. The building is also powered by a Virginia solar farm and has central heating and cooling for all electricity.

In addition to the Seattle headquarters, the building holds public tours every weekend. In the outdoor open space provided in the basement of the parking lot or entrance, an outdoor stage with parks, promenades, parking lots of close to 1,000 cars, and shops is also installed.

Amazon recognizes the possibility that the Corona 19 epidemic will lead the way in the way buildings are used, and even after completion in 2025, some employees are primarily considering choosing to work remotely. Therefore, we are thinking of improving the environment for collaboration and introducing a system that allows employees to decide where and how to work on their own. In addition, the generously equipped shared space will be helpful when other departments and outsiders need to cooperate.

For Amazon’s second headquarters plan, local governments will provide tax incentives and invest more than $2 billion to build 20,000 affordable homes for employees. Supporters of Amazon argue that the construction of the second headquarters will create more than 25,000 jobs and increase local government tax revenues, increasing local benefits. On the one hand, however, there is also a concern about the possibility of taking away and kicking out positions from low-income communities. Related information can be found here .
