OnePlus announced its first smartwatch, OnePlus Watch, including the OnePluis 9 series of flagship smartphones on March 23 (local time).
OnePlus Watch is a round smart watch with a case diameter of 46mm. There are physical buttons on the right side, so the overall appearance is similar to that of the Galaxy Watch Active 2. The display is 1.39 inches and the resolution is 454×454 AMOLED. The case is made of stainless steel and the color is midnight black.
The operating system adopted its own operating system based on RTOS instead of Wear OS. It supports more than 110 types of exercise with a device that emphasizes physical strength rather than general multipurpose smartwatches such as Wear OS devices and Apple Watch. It supports heart and blood oxygen concentration measurement, and can be used while swimming through the water resistance of 5 atm. GPS is also built-in, so you can record your running route without using a smartphone.
In addition, a microphone and speaker are also installed to support hands-free calls for calls made to smartphones. If you store music in 4GB storage space, you can enjoy music without a smartphone. The battery life is up to 2 weeks and with GPS it is up to 24 hours. Notable is the charging speed, and it can charge the battery for a day in 5 minutes.
The measurement data itself is synchronized with OnePlus Health, but can also be synchronized with Google Fit or other services. However, the only supported operating system is Android, and iOS is expected to be supported in the future. In addition, a limited edition that uses cobalt alloy as a case material or sapphire glass for a display will be sold in the future. The price is $159.
Two types of smartphones announced together are One Plus 9 and One Plus 9 Pro. The biggest feature is that the cameras affiliated with Hasselblad are equipped with a Sony image sensor.
The OnePlus 9 Pro adopts a 1/1.43-inch IMX789 sensor developed jointly with Sony as the main camera. It has technologies such as dual basic ISO, DOL-HDR, 2×2 on-chip lens, and optical image stabilization. The ultra-wide-angle camera also uses a Sony 1/1.56-inch IMX766 sensor to reduce edge distortion by 1%, and it is said that it can reduce distortion such as buildings in outdoor shooting. In addition, an 8-megapixel optical 3.3x telephoto camera and a 2-megapixel black-and-white camera are added to accommodate all shooting scenes with four cameras.
In addition to adjusting ISO sensitivity, focus, and exposure, the camera app also has Hasselblad Pro mode, so you can reproduce Hasselblad’s characteristic shutter sound when shooting. Image data can also be output as a 12-bit RAW image. The raw data can be freely adjusted on the sensor to complete a photo with natural colors. The video is also compatible with 8K, 30 frames or 4K 120 frames shooting by using the main camera.
The display is an LTPO type 6.7-inch quad HD AMOLED with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. It minimizes battery consumption by raising the refresh rate to the upper limit for games or other necessary scenes, and lowering the refresh rate to 1 Hz for displaying photos or web pages without motion. For example, it runs at 24Hz for theater movies and 90Hz for Fortnite. In addition to the refresh rate, it is possible to respond to games that require manipulation at strict timing through hypertouch, a low-latency touch screen processing technology.
Snapdragon 888 was adopted for the SoC that becomes the brain of a smartphone. You can choose between 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1218 or 256GB of storage space. The battery capacity is 4,500mAh. In addition, charging is possible in 45 minutes wirelessly and 30 minutes by wire.
The standard model, OnePlus 9, also adopted the Snapdragon 888 SoC, as well as RAM and storage space. The difference is that the display is 6.5 inches full HD and the main camera sensor is a 1/1,43 inches IMX689.
The OnePlus 9 Pro starts at $970 and the OnePlus 9 starts at $729. Related information can be found here.
