Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the FSD system, or fully autonomous driving option, will become available with a vector-space bird’s eye view when parked.
In 2007, Nissan first installed a function that supports driving when parking or reversing using an image looking down on the vehicle under the name of Around View Monitor. Image processing is performed by combining images from several cameras mounted on each position of the vehicle body, showing images as if looking down from the sky. Since then, other manufacturers have developed the same system, and now it is being installed as a necessity.
Details such as the specific features of the Tesla version of the Around View monitor and when it will be available have not been revealed. However, as it will be named Bird’s Eye View, it is expected that the video will be viewed from the viewpoint of looking down at the car from above as if it were a bird.
This feature is only available with the introduction of a $8,000 FSD system. The introduction price of the FSD system was $5,000 at the beginning of the announcement, but the price has increased year by year and has risen to $8,000 in May 2020. In the past, CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the cost of adoption is likely still high. Because of the high price, there is a possibility that some users will put off the introduction.
