The Space Development Administration (SDA), a newly formed U.S. Department of Defense, has signed a more than $149 million contract with SpaceX to provide hypersonic missile tracking and early warning capabilities. Another Florida-based company, L3Harris Technologies, is investing $193.5 million in a contract to develop a tracking satellite.
SpaceX and L3 Harris will jointly develop the first eight tracking satellites and put them into first orbit by September 2022. This contract is the first satellite supply contract with the US Department of Defense for SpaceX, and it can be said that it goes beyond the original business scope of SpaceX, which puts spacecraft into orbit. SpaceX is already developing starships and super-heavy rockets for space travel and interplanetary travel. Related information can be found here.
