AMD announces Ryzen 5000 series adopting Zen 3

AMD held an online presentation and announced the Ryzen 5000 series of desktop PC CPUs using the Zen 3 architecture.

The most high-performance product is the Ryzen 9 5950X, with 16 cores and 32 threads, clock frequency of 3.4GHz, L2 and L3 cache capacity of 72MB, TDP of 105W, and the price is $799. The new-generation Zen 3 architecture adopts a Unified 8-Core Complex that integrates up to 8 CPU cores per die and 32MB of L3 cache. In the case of the previous Zen 2, 4 CPU cores and 16 MB of L3 cache. Through this, the L3 cache access delay for inter-core communication was shortened.

MODEL CORES/ THREADS TDP (Watts) BOOST 9 /BASE FREQ. (GHz) TOTAL CACHE COOLER SEP (USD) EXPECTED AVAILABILITY
AMD Ryzen™ 9 5950X 16C/32T 105W Up to 4.9 / 3.4 72 MB N/A $799 November 5, 2020
AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900X 12C/24T 105W Up to 4.8 / 3.7 70 MB N/A $549 November 5, 2020
AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X 8C/16T 105W Up to 4.7 / 3.8 36 MB N/A $449 November 5, 2020
AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X 6C/12T 65W Up to 4.6 / 3.7 35 MB Wraith Stealth $299 November 5, 2020

This performance improvement is useful for applications that maintain high performance, such as game play and live broadcast. Overall, Zen 3 can expect 24% faster performance per watt than Zen 2, and is said to be 2.4 times faster than Zen 1.

In the announcement, the Zen 3 architecture said that the average number of instructions per clock (IPC) was improved by 19% compared to the Zen 2 (Instruction Per Clock). The single-thread performance, known as the weakness of Intel CPUs, also introduced the appearance that the Ryzen 9 5900X scored higher than the Core i9-10900K in Cinebench R20 comparison.

In this announcement, in addition to the Ryzen 9 5950X, which was first introduced as the Ryzen 5000 series, the Ryzen 7 5900X, Ryzen 7 6800X, and Ryzen 5 5600X were introduced together. The Ryzen 7 5900X has 12 cores, 24 threads, an operating clock of 3.7 GHz, 70 MB of L2 and L3 cache, and a TDP of 105 W, priced at $ 549. The Ryzen 7 5800X has 8 cores, 16 threads, an operating clock of 3.8 GHz, 36 MB of L2 and L3 caches, a TDP of 105 W, and is priced at $ 449. The Ryzen 5 5600X has 6 cores and 12 threads, has a clock of 3.7 GHz, 35 MB of L2 and L3 caches, and has a TDP of 65 W and is priced at $299. Of these, only the Ryzen 5 5600X comes with a cooling fan. The release date is November 5th in the US. Related information can be found here.
