The LEONARDO. LEgs ON boARD Drone is a drone with legs developed by a research team at the California Institute of Technology. It was designed to combine the two movements of walking and flying, and the software was also developed separately.
It is still in a prototype state and is in the state to demonstrate a robot concept that can both fly and walk. Being able to walk or fly broadens the range of tasks that can be dealt with, and in the future, it is possible to imagine the use of infrastructure equipment repair, industrial accidents, and natural disasters. There is a possibility that it will be active in places like Mars.
It is said that Leonardo’s appearance was influenced by flying suits such as Iron Man. As the purpose of the project is to combine walking and flying, we plan to study hybrid movement control. Related information can be found here.
