Qualcomm’s metaverse platform ecosystem

Metaverse has emerged as a hot keyword. Qualcomm is also expected to build a metaverse world with Snapdragon Spaces.

Snapdragon Spaces is an AR development platform ecosystem provided by Qualcomm. Supporting AR app development for next-generation headsets and gaming terminals. Unlike existing game development engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine, when developing an app that connects the AR world and reality, it can become a more convenient development platform by responding to spatial mapping, plane detection, and object tracking and recognition.

What can be expected platform growth in the future is that Snapdragon Spaces is an open platform that supports multiple terminals, such as a standalone AR headset or a type used with a smartphone. It is also responding to SDKs for existing game development engines such as Unreal Engine and Niantic. In addition, the Snapdragon Spaces Pathfinder Program will be opened to support various AR projects.

Many large companies are already paying attention, and T-Mobile, Xiaomi, Viacom, Oppo, and Motorola are said to be planning apps and devices using Snapdragon Spaceys. Among them, Lenovo is betting that the smart glass ThinkReality A3 will be the world’s first Snapdragon Spacey-compatible AR glass.

Snapdragon Spaces already has early access for some developers and plans to expand it. Related information can be found here.
