Open Lab in Intel, China, Taiwan

Intel has announced that it will open a new project Athena Open Labs in three locations in Taipei, Shanghai, and Poles, California.

Project Athena is a project to promote Intel’s next-generation notebooks and aims to realize long-term battery use, 5G communication function, and AI technology for productivity improvement aiming at realization after 2020. PC makers and component suppliers can offer prototype parts to open labs for next-generation laptops. Intel will ensure that the parts conform to specifications and maintain consistency by testing notebooks conforming to the project Athena, produced by various brands, under the same conditions.

Three test centers in the United States, Taiwan and China will begin accepting test components and will be officially opened in June. Project Athena has already participated in major PC companies such as Acer, Aesus, Lenovo, Dell, Sharp and HP, as well as companies such as Google, Huawei and Samsung Electronics. Some of the first products will also use Intel’s 10-nm manufacturing process model, the Ice Lake processor. In 2020, Intel aims to launch notebooks that comply with the Project Athena specification.
