RAND Corporation, a US non-profit policy think tank, said in a report that cryptocurrencies are not suitable for current terrorist demands.
Titled Terrorists’ Use of Cryptocurrency: Technical and Organizational Barriers and Future Threats, this report focuses on two things when terrorists use cryptocurrency today and when the industry grows in the future. According to this, the current cryptocurrency is not a big threat as a means of financing Terra. However, there is a problem that there are no regulations related to cryptocurrency. The report predicts that if cryptocurrency anonymity and security increase, the potential use risk by terrorists will increase.
In addition, as transactions in unregulated markets such as countries without appropriate regulations or dark nets, there is a high risk of illegal use of cryptocurrency, international cooperation and industry regulations by law enforcement agencies or intelligence agencies are required.
The report believes that if cryptocurrency hacking continues and prices are unstable, terrorists will not try to make the most of it.
