Nintendo’s portable game console Game Boy celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Programmer Chris Maltby has released the source code for GB Studio, a software development tool for Game Boy.
GB Studio allows you to create 2D mini-games without writing programming code by using Electron, a cross-platform application development environment made with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Users can upload PNG format graphics in the editor, set character movements, and intuitively create transitions. In addition, text sentences displayed according to the conditions for manipulating characters can also be edited. Of course, you can upload background music through the GBT player. Once you have all the necessary components in place, you can export a ROM file that you can actually enjoy with just a few small steps.
The software can also be output as an HTML5 format web app, and can be enjoyed on various operating systems such as Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can also do it in a smartphone web browser.
The developer said that GB Studio thought it was a good way to improve in the future, saying that it is to create a simple adventure game without battles, and that it can prepare alternatives for character dialogue and create adventures. Related information can be found here .
