Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 855 Plus, a next-generation SoC for smartphones on July 15 (local time).
Qualcomm has been releasing high-end SoCs at the end of the year for the past few years, but this time it broke. Of course, it is not a brand new SoC. As the product name suggests, it is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 855. The CPU is the Kryo 485 and the GPU is the Adreno 640, which is the same as the existing Snapdragon 855. However, the CPU clock overclocked from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz and the GPU rendering performance was 15% higher.
Like the Snapdragon 855, the internal modem uses an X24 that supports LTE. To use 5G, you need to use a separate X50 modem as before.
When Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 855 Plus, it appeared to have been updated for various services in 5G environment where commercial services are spreading, while strongly appealing to improve game performance and respond to XR and 5G. The Snapdragon 855 Plus is expected to be released in the second half of this year, but it has already been announced that Asus will adopt it for the gaming smartphone ROG Phone 2, which will be announced on July 23rd.
