The Apollo 11 was successfully landed on the first moon on July 20, 1969. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary, US current affairs magazine Time has released an augmented reality app (TIME Immersive Landing on the Moon) that reproduces the Apollo 11 moon landing.
The app , available for both Android and iOS , created a moon landing simulation in collaboration with the Smithsonian Space Museum and Disney’s VFX maker, ILM (Industrial Light & Magic). The lunar lander flight path was reproduced using a telemetry path provided by NASA. The lunar landscape data was collected by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), NASA’s lunar orbiting satellite launched in 2009. It is said to be the world’s most accurate 3D moon landing simulation.
The app does not just look at the landing, but you can also experience the inside of the lander or stand by Neil Armstrong astronaut and watch the stars and stripes. Related information can be found here .
