Intel Announces 10th Gen Core Processors for Mobile

Intel has announced Comet Lake, codenamed for developing 10th generation core processors for mobile PCs. This CPU is for mobile, but its biggest feature is that it supports 6 cores and 12 threads. Intel said that Comet Lake can expect an overall performance improvement of up to 16% compared to the previous generation U-series, as well as a 41% increase in Office 365 performance.

Intel announced the Ice Lake on August 1st with the same 10th generation core processor. Ice Lake is equipped with the built-in GPU Iris Plus, made under the 10nm manufacturing process. On the other hand, Comet Lake is made with a 14nm manufacturing process and offers 6 cores and 12 threads.

Both Comet Lake and Ice Lake have a common model U series and a low power model Y series. Ice Lake’s thermal design power TDP has a minimum of 9W, whereas Comet Lake’s Y-series TDP has a minimum of 7W and can be lowered to 4.5W through settings. On the other hand, Comet Lake’s built-in GPU is Intel UHD Graphics, and Ice Lake is superior when comparing graphics.

Both Comet Lake and Ice Lake support Intel Adaptix Technology, Thunderbolt 3, and Wi-Fi 6 as standard. The Comet Lake series has 4 types of U series and Y series each.

Meanwhile, Intel has also announced a naming convention for 10th generation processors. Among the numbers following the Intel Core i7, the first two digits indicate the CPU generation, and the third digit or more from the beginning is the CPU identification number. The alphabet after the number is the processor type. Related information can be found here .
