Apple announced on August 29 (local time) that it will launch a product in the United States that provides genuine parts and tools, training, service guides, diagnostics and resources to independent repairers like Apple Authorized Service Providers. Certified companies are allowed to repair iPhones, including display and battery replacement.
This qualification requires that the business is already established and the place of business is in a commercial area. Residence is not recognized as a service location. In other words, you can’t start a repair business at home after training without any results. Apple also offers free participation in the program if it hires an Apple certified technician.
It also states that Apple reserves the right to deny the application, not guaranteeing participation in the program just because it meets the requirements. It seems that Apple will have no choice but to wait and see how much flexibility Apple will show.
In an announcement, Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams said in an announcement that independent vendors will be able to use resources such as Apple’s Authorized Service Provider to meet customer needs. Reliable repairs are made using rigorously tested genuine parts and must be done by skilled technicians.
Of course, this movement did not come out of nowhere. There have been reports that Apple has previously discovered in-house documents stating that it intends to provide unrestricted diagnostic software and genuine repair parts to some repair companies. It can be said that Apple, which has not stubbornly admitted third-party repairs so far, has finally begun to release the right to recover.
According to official data, Apple has piloted 20 independent repair companies in North America, Europe and Asia over the past year and has already provided genuine parts for repairs. In the future, the program will be expanded to other countries as well. For now, it’s limited to repairing the iPhone, but it’s certainly a first step towards the right to recover.
