A man was arrested for killing a date and applying to an online loan company using her face. At the time of application, a loan company that suspected of facial authentication was informed and arrested.
A 29-year-old man living in southeastern China is said to have been trying to burn female corpses on a farm at the time of arrest. Authorities believe the man killed the other person in a row on April 11 after arguing over money. The incident took place in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The man moved the body to his hometown, a four-hour drive away.
There, the man tried to use the victim’s identity by applying for a loan using an app called Money Station. The app uses facial recognition to ask the user to wink during the approval process. I can’t detect eye movements with this app, but I found out that the voices belonged to men, not women.
A loan company employee manually reviewed the failed data and found that the woman’s face had bruises and red marks on her neck. The man was eventually arrested in early August. He was accused of stealing 30,000 yuan from the victim’s account using a smartphone. There may be an increasing number of apps that use biometrics in the future to prevent abuse of identity after being killed. Related information can be found here .
