A research team at the University of Saarland and Leibniz University in Germany is making a paint called Nanomer. It is a paint that can self-heal scratches on cars through high heat. High heat does not cause a chemical reaction unless it is heated to 100 degrees within 1 minute.
The raw material used for this special paint is surprisingly corn. Using corn starch. It is said that molecules are bonded to each other in a special ring structure called cyclodextrin, and are connected like a pearl necklace in a polymer thread. It is mixed with chemicals to increase durability and to withstand any weather. Even if it is made of paint, the flexibility is restored, so the injured area is covered again.
