Chinese blockchain accounts for 48% of the world’s patents

It is reported that Jingdong.com, a Chinese e-commerce company, has applied for more than 200 blockchain-related patents.

Alibaba has also applied for 262 patents related to blockchain, and according to China’s National Intellectual Property Office, Tencent has applied for 80 and Baidu 50 respectively. In terms of blockchain-related patents, according to the white paper on the status of blockchain patents published by China Telecom, the number of applications for blockchain-related patents from 2013 to 2018 was 4,435, accounting for 48% of the total number of cases worldwide. The United States followed China in 1,833 cases, or 21% of the total.

Reportedly, the number of applications such as companies accounted for 75%, far exceeding the number of applications for research institutes, individuals, and governments. Most of the 75% are Internet-related companies. In August last year, Jingdong.com announced the JD Blockchain Open Platform, a BaaS that allows you to easily build your own blockchain applications. In addition, in September, it established a smart city research center in Nanjing, where Jingdong.com’s financial division is headquartered, to promote the construction of a new city using block chains.
