A company called OPTIMUS RIDE has launched an autonomous vehicle program in Brooklyn, New York. Picking up people by shuttle at the brooklyn navy yard and running several stops.
The Brooklyn Naval Gongchang was originally a military factory and was a facility for developing, manufacturing, and dispensing munitions, including weapons and ammunition, but now has a commercial and industrial facility and an industrial complex where artists gather. There are more than 400 industrial parks in the Brooklyn Naval Gongchang, but unlike roads, they are vast, but closed spaces, so they can operate autonomous vehicles.
The area of this area is 300 acres, which is as large as 26 dome stadiums. As it continues to expand, the number of people employed by the end of 2021 is currently 10,000 to 20,000, and even 10 years later, it is planned to increase to 30,000, so such a shuttle is necessary. There are only two stations right now, but since six cars have started running, it seems that if you miss the car, you can get on the next bus right away. It burns 500 people every day, carrying more than 16,000 people per month. At first, it does not drive for safety, but the driver and software operator ride with it, but it will be completely unmanned once safety is confirmed.
Optimus Ride is expected to increase in number of autonomous shuttle users as it has contracts with Virginia, California and Massachusetts. Related information can be found here .
