French automaker Renault has announced the TWINGO ZE.
Twingo ZE is a four-door four-seater compact car. It is a vehicle developed jointly with Daimler Smart, Germany. Smart Popo, which was designed for electric vehicles from the beginning, and shared a platform, has included EV specifications since 2016, but has stopped mounting Renault-made gasoline engines from 2020 and has declared electrification.
In place of the gasoline engine, the Twingo ZE drives the rear wheels by an electric motor mounted at the rear. The maximum power is 60kW, 82 horsepower, and the maximum torque is 160Nm. It has an LG Chem battery and has a capacity of 21.3kWh. The range that can be driven once charged is also 180 km in WLTP mode, and the maximum speed at which the limiter operates is 135 km/h.
The Twingo ZE can drive continuously up to 215 km, although acceleration or top speed is limited by pressing a button on the center console to switch drive mode to eco mode. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that the WLTP mode range drops to 110 km in winter.
Twingo ZE is equipped with a charging function that supports tangible power. The most common AC 22kW quick charge is said to be able to run 80km in 30 minutes. The battery cooling system adopts water cooling. The water-cooled type is expensive and requires regular coolant replacement, but it is advantageous in that it stabilizes performance and suppresses deterioration due to enhanced battery temperature management.
In the interior, it has a B mode that can change the regenerative brake strength in three steps instead of the shift lever manual mode. The liquid crystal panel in front of the driver allows you to see the remaining battery level and driving distance. In addition, due to the characteristic of an EV that does not have an engine sound, it has a built-in ZE voice system that emits an electronic sound so that pedestrians can know when approaching at a low speed. You can choose from 3 types of sound. Also, when the driving speed exceeds 30km/h, it automatically turns off.
Using a dedicated smartphone app, you can adjust the vehicle temperature by operating the air conditioner while connecting the Twingo ZE to the charger before boarding. The Twingo ZE will be produced at the Slovenia plant, and the actual vehicle will be unveiled during the Geneva Motor Show on March 3, and the price will be revealed later.
