Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved the construction of a SpaceX rocket plant in Los Angeles. Large rockets and spacecraft Starships will be built at this plant, and research facilities will also be installed. The Port Authority of Los Angeles also issued approval last week.
The construction of the LA plant was announced in April 2018. The five hectares of land are leased to SpaceX for $1.7 million per year on a 10-year lease. The contract also includes an option to expand the land use up to 8 hectares.
In fact, after the contract was announced in 2018, the land use permit was once dissolved, and SpaceX is currently working on a Starship building facility development project in Texas. If Starship is created on the Los Angeles site, the development is expected to be smoother than ever since it is close to the SpaceX headquarters located in the same state of California.
However, this approval does not include rocket launch, and starship research and design development required for this is limited. Therefore, the starship assembled to some extent in this new factory will be taken out by barge and launched elsewhere. Related information can be found here .
