Speedgate is a new sport created by design agency AKQA using AI. When it comes to existing sports, most of them take culture as their roots, such as traditional events that originated in their birthplace, but Speedgate is a completely new sport.
The Speedgate was made with AI for the first time in a state of nothing. In this game, 6 players use a dedicated ball and if there is no ball, a rugby practice ball is used. On the field, place 3 circles like a circle on a soccer field. A door like a rugby goal stands here.
The player starts play by kicking the ball that passes through the central gate and scores 2 points for breaking the opponent’s goal. Also, if you kick it from behind the goal and pass it in the opposite direction, you get 1 point. Anyone can enter the center circle and must not hold the ball for more than 3 seconds. You have to go through the path in turn.
You can view detailed rules by visiting the Speedgate website. If AKQA is talking about Speedgate with the Oregon Sports Association, there is a possibility of establishing a regional league in the summer. AKQA is said to have created a speedgate by putting 400 types of sports information into a neural network. A sport that seems to be a mixture of rugby, soccer, and basketball was born.
Of course, Speedgate is not at the level to change the existing major sports game. However, it can be said that it is meaningful in that it is an example that AI can create a sport with full-fledged and non-contradictory rules. Related information can be found here .
