Google to provide free Chromebooks and routers to California

Google announced that it will provide 4,000 Chromebooks and 100,000 portable routers to its headquarters in California.

In California, orders to wait at home have been issued across the country to counter COVID-19. Of course, the school is also closed, but distance classes are in progress. However, not all students have an environment in which they can study online at home. This proposal is aimed at supporting distance education. The governor of California said it would first distribute it to rural students.

The hotspot usage fee is borne by Google, and the high-speed Internet connection is provided for free until August. There aren’t many 100,000 units, but they still need more than 160,000 units to meet the statewide student needs. The governor of California also said in an interview that Google needed more.
