NASA has sent orders to Voyager 2 for the first time since mid-March. The communication network started to explore the outer space of the solar system was a test following a reboot after facility updates such as the old DSS (Deep Space Station) 43 radio transmitter among DSN (Deep Space Network) antennas.
During the construction of the facility, the research team was only able to update the status and receive scientific data from Voyager 2. However, after completing the update on October 29, it was possible to send ground orders again. In the DSS 43 facility update, two types of wireless transmission equipment were added. One of these has been updated over 47 years. It confirmed that the command transmission was successful to Voyager 2, and one step to return to operation of the antenna scheduled for February 2021 has been resolved.
The DSS 43 provides the largest output in the southern hemisphere in Canberra, Australia. Among DSNs, it is the only Voyager 2 and communication facility that is 18 billion kilometers away from Earth in terms of its output and location. This facility not only communicates with the Voyager 2, but also plays an important role in the operation of the exploration rover Perseverance, which will arrive on Mars around February 18, 2021, the Artemis-planned moon exploration mission sometime thereafter, and the future manned exploration of Mars. Seems to do. It can be a communication facility that will greatly aid in space exploration for decades. Related information can be found here .
