Amazon acquires podcast publisher Wonderly

Amazon announced that it is acquiring podcast operator Wondery. Wonderly thus becomes part of Amazon Music with the podcast added.

Both media companies and streaming audio platforms are investing in podcasts. Spotify acquired podcast network Gimlet, SiriusXM acquired Stitcher, and The New York Times acquired Serial Productions.

Amazon says that with Amazon Music, Wonderly can provide high-quality content and that viewers can enjoy entertainment and knowledge-related content anywhere. Conditions such as the amount of the transaction were not disclosed. However, in a previous report that announced that it is in negotiations over the acquisition, the valuation amount was reported at $300 million.

Wonderley was founded in 2016 by former Fox executive Hernan Lopez. It ranks fourth among podcast publishers in November 2020 and has more than 9 million listeners in the United States. It has also raised $15 million in funding from Advancit Capital, BDMI, Graycroft, and Lerer Hippeau. Related information can be found here .
