It is said that the cumulative sales of the iPhone 12 series released in the fall of 2020 reached a breakthrough record of more than 100 million units in April 2021, that is, seven months after its release.
According to the market research firm Counterpoint, the achievement of 100 million units in seven months is two months earlier than the iPhone 11 series. It is almost the same as the iPhone 6, which realized high replacement demand during the transition from 3G to 4G in 2014-2015. In other words, the iPhone 12 series is the iPhone that caused a supercycle for the first time in the 6th generation.
However, since Apple does not disclose the number of iPhones, iPads, and Macs sold after 2018, this figure is a counterpoint estimate. In the counterpoint analysis, in the case of the iPhone 6 series, potential demand for iPhones with large screens supported sales, while the iPhone 12 series 5G and previous models had AMOLED displays, which acted as a factor in attracting customers.
Also, in the same generation, the change between the iPhone 11 series and the iPhone 12 was that the iPhone 11 Pro Max had a 25% market share, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max had a higher share at 29%. This shows that large-size models are becoming more popular, and at the same time, it is one of the reasons why the total sales of the iPhone 12 series are 22% higher than that of the iPhone 11 series 7 months after launch.
In addition, sales in the U.S. accounted for 40% of global iPhone 12 Pro Max sales through April. While the contribution of the large model is emphasized, there is no mention of the 5.4-inch mini model at all, so there is a feeling that it supports the rumor that production was terminated prematurely due to sluggish sales.
It seems that the iPhone 11 series purchases decreased due to the impact of Corona 19, but there is an analysis that the iPhone 12 had no significant effect. Rather, it is said that the number of users who continued to use their previous smartphones replaced the iPhone 12 when the iPhone 12 was released, probably due to concerns about the spread of infection.
