In the UK, Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant function, will provide medical information. The British National Insurance Service, NHS, was made possible in partnership with Amazon.
This service allows you to receive specific advice through Alexa, such as how to treat migraine headaches. An official from the NHS side explains that the algorithm will be used by collecting search results on the NHS website. In the United States, in 2017, a similar function was released in partnership with WebMD. Here, for example, Alexa and steroid side effects are answered by asking questions.
In the UK, Alexa’s provision of medical information is expected to relieve pressure on doctors, nurses and pharmacists working in hospitals. As all patients want to take care of their health more efficiently, this technique will be a good example of how to get NHS advice at home.
Of course, there is also a voice of criticism. It has been reported that Amazon does not completely delete the records of orders made to Alexa. In other words, there is a possibility that the searched health condition could be leaked to Amazon. However, Amazon stresses that it has no right to access medical records of British citizens.
In the future, there may be an era in which Amazon measures the body temperature by touching the speaker, judges the condition based on the tone, and delivers the appropriate drug for us. Related information can be found here .
