The NFC Forum, an organization that sets the NFC standard for contactless communication, has released the Wireless Charging Specification (WLC).
WLC erases the wireless reverse charging d that reverses charging by placing an earphone or watch on the back of a smartphone, like a product such as the Galaxy S10 announced by Samsung Electronics. Currently, the Qi method is used, but what the NFC Forum announced is based on NFC. Therefore, the power that can be supplied is as little as 1W. Instead, the existing NFC circuit can be used as it is, so there is no need for additional charging-only hardware.
Also, even with 1W output, it is enough to charge small IoT devices, wireless earphones, and smart watches. Of course, you can’t do things like fast charging, but it can be convenient if the battery runs out of the outside. In addition, the wireless charging specification announced by the NFC Forum explains that smaller and more sealed devices can be manufactured by removing a plug or cord.
Since WLC is a specification that can be used by smartphone manufacturers, there is a possibility that it will be an environment where wireless earphones can be charged by placing them on the back of the smartphone regardless of the manufacturer. Of course, WLC is likely to be widely distributed in the future as its specifications have been announced right now, but it may take some time until the installed devices become available.
