“All iPhones can jailbreak” tool released

A jailbreak tool for all iPhones has been released.

The iOS version targeting the unc0ver 5.0.0 version is 11.0 or higher. It is also active on models with the latest iOS 13.5 installed. On iOS devices such as the iPhone, user privileges are usually restricted, and administrator privileges that completely control the system cannot be used. Jailbreak is to gain such administrator rights through system vulnerability. For example, it becomes possible to install apps outside the App Store, which are not allowed in the past.

Reportedly, the hacker who developed the jailbreak tool ran it using a vulnerability that Apple did not recognize, so-called zero-day. In September 2019, an unpatchable jailbreak also appeared, and this was targeted to almost all A-series chip-equipped devices before the iPhone 4s, iPhone X, and A11. In other words, this is the first jailbreak for the latest iPhone 11 series or iPhone SE since 2018, including iPhone XS.

According to iOS security researcher (Pwn20wnd), it will take at least 2-3 weeks to release the Apple patch. In addition, even after the patch is released, users can usually downgrade to the previous version for about two weeks, so the jailbreak is likely to continue working.

Although iOS has been robust for a long time, similar jailbreak success reports have been followed since the jailbreak was released in August 2019. These numerous jailbreaks suggest that Apple is not aware of all the vulnerabilities and iOS security is weakening. Not long ago, there were rumors that the iOS 14 code extracted from the iPhone is being traded on the Internet and being studied for hacking, or reports that Zerodium, a broker seeking vulnerabilities, suspended the purchase because the iOS vulnerability market effect was so great. The vulnerability used in jailbreak can be a springboard for hackers to exploit and attack other iPhones. Interest is focused on Apple’s future response. Related information can be found here.
