Help Connect is an emergency notification system announced by Bosch that automatically calls for help in the event of a motorcycle rollover accident.
The accident location is transmitted to the Bosch service center, including the identity of the passenger, through a smartphone using an inertial sensor that calibrates MSC, a stability-related function developed by Bosch for motorcycles. Bosch says the risk of a rider accident is 20 times that of a car. It is to develop such a function because if an accident occurs, it is necessary to rescue quickly to increase the chances of survival.
The Bosch MSC system measures the motorcycle inclination angle and adjusts the ABS and traction control according to the angle. For example, it maximizes the braking effect in a straight line while controlling the brake pressure by detecting the slope of the motorcycle in the corner. It also works to improve stability throughout braking by detecting front and rear pitching and preventing tire lift.
Help Connect is intended to rescue the rider as quickly as possible in an accident that can occur even with the MSC system. The inertial sensor detects a fall situation by measuring motorcycle acceleration and angular velocity every 0.01 seconds. Depending on the change in the measured value, you can see the difference whether the motorcycle collided with a vehicle while driving or if it fell while stopping. Through this, Help Connect judges the accident and reports the situation to the service center. Bosch said it plans to start the service in Germany first and then expand it to other countries.
