IFixit, a repair company known for its disassembly, has released a report on disassembling the iPhone 12 and Pro.
IFixit exchanged the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro displays and verified that they worked without problems. However, the maximum brightness of the two is slightly different. The official specifications are 625 nits and 800 nits. In addition, if the protective film that protects the camera part is removed, the iPhone 12 has no parts corresponding to the pro telephoto lens and lidar scanner, so a plastic spacer is placed to fill the gap.
In the previous teardown video, the iPhone 12 and Pro are equipped with 2,815mAh batteries with the same capacity, but the two models can be exchanged. In addition, the North American model includes a 5G millimeter wave antenna module on the side of the frame as a general assumption. When looking at the X-ray perspective, you can also see the almost identical L-shaped logic board battery for both products, and a round magnet array to support MaxSafe. IFixit has also disassembled the MaxSafe charger, revealing a circular arrangement of magnets inside the iPhone 12 and an enclosed charging coil.
The repairability score for iFixit is 6 out of 10 for both the iPhone 12 and Pro. More parts have been modularized, making them easier to replace. On the other hand, it continues to use its own screws, reinforced waterproof, which can make repair difficult, and if the rear glass is damaged, it is negative that all parts need to be removed and the chassis replaced.
Analysts that the difference between the iPhone 12 and the Pro is the only camera, but it may be said that rationalization is in progress as the number of iPhone models increases. Related information can be found here .
