“Because of flocking access to the US New Year?” Temporary Slack service interruption

On January 5, Slack, a collaboration tool, had a service outage at 0:00. In the United States, it seems that the surge in access following the opening ceremony is the cause.

Initially, it was reported on the Slack status page that there was a connection defect and a problem with sending and receiving messages to the Slack service, but after an hour, the overall service outage was more severe, and as the report was updated, Slack said that it was working on solving the problem. Afterwards, some users reported that the service was recovering one by one, and around 2:30 the problem is still mostly in progress, but some customers said that they could see improved connectivity to Slack after the update.

On the Slack status page, there was an overall service outage indication even around 4 o’clock, but the Slack client was in a working state. Internet service error monitoring sites (Downdetector) also reported errors at almost normal levels.

Slack has grown significantly as a business collaboration tool and has become an essential tool for remote work in the Corona 19 situation. As Salesforce, which focuses on value, announced that it will acquire Slack in December 2020, competition with rival Microsoft Teams is also expected to intensify.
