LG Display will introduce a 48-inch 4K resolution flexible OLED display during CES 2021, which is held online from January 6 to 9. The tentatively named Bendable CSO Display can be transformed into a flat surface when watching a movie, for example, and a curved surface shape with a minimum radius of 1m when playing games that emphasize immersion.
CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) is equipped with a 0.6mm thick film on the display itself, and the entire display functions as a speaker. Sound comes out from the screen itself, and you can expect to improve your immersion in content appreciation. Since the screen transforms from a flat to a curved display, it can provide maximum immersion and realism from watching movies to games.
The response time of this product is 0.1ms and operates with 40~120Hz variable refresh rate. If you simply think of the game display, there are already products such as 240Hz and 360Hz, but the next-generation game consoles such as Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 support 4K 120 frames and provide a pleasant gameplay as it provides high immersion, such as sound effects directly on the screen. You may be able to experience it.
Meanwhile, LG Display also unveils a 55-inch transparent OLED demo. There are three demos, one of which is sushi bar. The display is not only contactless, but also acts as a transparent barrier in the middle of conversations with guests. Of course you can display a menu or watch a video. You can also see the chef’s knife skills over the display.
When the transparent OLED is adopted for the subway, the subway window is changed to a transparent OLED, so passengers can check the destination station as they can add scenery while viewing the subway map, weather information, and news. In addition, LG Display is said to be developing a smart bed that integrates transparent OLED under the feet. At the touch of a button, the display comes out of your feet and shows news or TV programs in the size you want, allowing you to enjoy while lying down.
Transparent OLED can achieve 40% transparency. Currently, the transparency of transmissive LCDs exceeds 10%. LG Display is also planning to eliminate the need for external speakers by putting it in the frame itself through CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) technology. Related information can be found here .
