On March 25 (local time), Google announced the formation of the Android Ready SE Alliance in cooperation with SE (Secure Element) suppliers to promote the use of Android terminal hardware security modules.

To realize this, it is essential to have tamper-resistant hardware called SE (Secure Element) that prevents unauthorized manipulation of smartphone firmware and the like. These SEs are used to secure a separate security area in the terminal and to safely store encryption keys. Also, in the pixel terminal, the Pixel 3 is equipped with a Titan M chip. Similar SEs are installed after the Galaxy S20.
Google formed the Android Ready SE Alliance with SE manufacturers to accelerate the adoption of such cases in Android. At the same time, it started offering StrongBox for SE in general with SE companies so that OEM partners can use it immediately. It is easy to use SE functions, and by procuring hardware parts supported by SE companies, these functions can be used in their own devices.
In addition, according to Google, Strongbox will be applied not only to smartphones, but also to Wear OS, Android Auto Embedded, and Android TV. In addition, Apple has already finished responding to the iPhone and Apple Watch using a smartphone as a vehicle key. Android Ready SE is also a move to catch up.
