Waste plastic block made by a Kenyan female entrepreneur

Plastic trash pouring out every day around the world. It is said that 500 tons of plastic waste are produced every day in Nairobi, Africa. However, a female entrepreneur who mixes crushed waste plastic and sand and compresses it at a high temperature to make blocks is attracting attention.

A 29-year-old woman named Nzambi Matee has worked as an engineer in the Kenya oil industry after studying materials science at university. For this reason, the blocks she makes are lighter, stronger and cheaper than concrete, and they are said to produce 1,000-1,500 pieces per day. Accordingly, she was awarded the Young Champions of the Earth 2020 by the United Nations Environment Programme.

Currently, she is making about 20 tons of paving blocks. It is targeting 50 tons in the next fiscal year, and it is also saying that it wants to make blocks for construction. The movement hopes to first take place across Africa and allow young people to engage in similar activities.

She says that her dislike of living surrounded by plastic trash was the motive for this activity. After leaving the company, he saved a year and worked on block development, and received a scholarship for an American social entrepreneur education program, which was verified and improved at the University of Colorado to become a business.
