“Attempts to find aliens are still in its infancy”

According to a recent paper published in the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, Western Australia-based Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) radio telescopes examined millions of stars in the constellation, but could not find any extraterrestrial clues. A groundbreaking investigation was carried out to scan more than 1 million star radio signals, but no indications of the existence of extraterrestrial life were found.

The MWA is located in the Australian Outback, arranged like 256 tiles and has a frequency range of 80-300 MHz. The research team explained that the MWA is a telescope with a wide field of view capable of simultaneously observing millions of stars. Although it has observed and explored the constellation sky for 17 hours more than 100 times wider and deeper than before, no trace of intelligent life could be found in the dataset.

According to the research paper, radio waves in the 98-128 MHz range were searched in that the narrow-band signals matched the intelligent civilization radio transmission. Humans became the only intelligent civilization to generate such radio signals. Revealed. These SETI expeditions took place in January 2018 and included an area with at least six extraterrestrial planets. To date, MWA has been investigating 75 known exoplanets at low frequencies.

The latest study has covered more than 10 million stars, so it is more than the previous MWA survey, but it is not surprising that there is no harvest due to the small area of the survey. It’s like trying to find something in the oceans of the Earth. It is like having only investigated the water the size of a large swimming pool in the backyard. In the SETI project completed last year, no traces of extraterrestrial life were found in a survey of 1,372 short-distance stars.

You may be discouraged by these achievements, but the exploration of extraterrestrial life is in the beginning. Moreover, the possibility of finding aliens in the vast universe and on a limited time scale is infinitely low. The study conducted this year shows that there are currently about 36 communication with extraterrestrial intelligence (CETI) in our galaxy, and the nearest CETI is 17,000 light-years away. It is not easy to find aliens in the vast universe, but exploration continues. When the Western Australia SQUARE KILOMETRE ARRAY (SKA) is completed, it will be able to scan billions of stars with 50 times the sensitivity of MWA. Related information can be found here.
