Xiaomi unveils robot dog and in-camera smartphone

On August 10 (local time), Xiaomi held a new product launch event for Fall 2021 in China. What caught my attention was the announcement of a robot dog called Cyberdog that resembles the Boston Dynamics Spot. Although the appearance is heavily influenced by the spot, it adopted its own technology such as using its own servo motor, and it is equipped with Nvidia AI board Jensen Xavier NX. This module is equipped with 384 CUDA cores, 48 tensor cores, 6 camel CPU cores, and 2 cores dedicated to deep learning. interact with the surrounding environment.

For example, you can walk behind the person you are the owner of or avoid obstacles in your direction. Even if there are several people in front of you, it can recognize a person’s posture. When running, it has a top speed of 11.5 km/h, and acrobatics such as rear acrobatics are also possible.

The cyberdog code is shared by the open source community hosted by Xiaomi, and there is a possibility of developing it into the establishment of a robot research facility for future innovation. Xiaomi is offering this robot dog to developers and engineers in a limited edition of 1,000 units, priced at $1,540.

Xiaomi also announced the Xiaomi MIX 4 smartphone. This product has a resolution of 2400 × 1080 6.67 inches with almost no bezel feeling. The previous model had the front camera pushed up, but Xiaomi Mi 4 is an underscreen camera USC inserted under the screen. Xiaomi calls this CUP (Camera Under Panel) technology.

According to USC, Oppo has announced the next-generation technology, but Xiaomi CUP similarly reduces the size of the front pixel of the camera to secure the amount of transmitted light. Since the pixel density itself has secured 400ppi unchanged from other parts, the appearance does not feel that there is a camera.

The display supports a screen refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 480Hz, 10-bit true color, HDR10+, etc., and adopts Gorilla GlassVictus.

This product is also the first smartphone equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G. The clock speed has been raised from 2.84 GHz to 3 GHz, and the AI function has also been increased by 20%. As a result, the amount of heat also increased, but the heat is suppressed with its own heat dissipation mechanism using graphene and graphite. In addition, you can choose between LPDDR5 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and storage space of UFS 3.1 128, 256, or 512GB.

Xiaomi is the first to support UWB. It is used in models such as the iPhone 12 series and Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S21+, but instead of using an anti-lost tag, it is used to connect to a smart device. It is said that the MIX4 can be connected to only Xiaomi-compatible smart devices such as TVs, smart speakers, and air conditioners with a function called Point to Connect.

The rear camera consists of a 108-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that supports 5x optics, and a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle camera that supports 13 megapixels. The main camera responds to a super pixel that increases the amount of light by tying four pixels together. It is explained that the ultra-wide-angle camera adopts a free-form lens and does not cause distortion peculiar to wide-angle.

The battery is 4,500mAh and supports wired 120W and wireless 50W fast charging. It can be charged in 21 minutes and 45 minutes, respectively, but using the boost mode, the charging time is reduced to 15 minutes and 28 minutes. The case is a ceramic unibody, the body size is 162.65×75.35×8.02mm, and the weight is 225g. The price is 4,999 yuan for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
