TikTok beats Facebook to become the world’s number 1 downloadable app

The most downloaded app in the world in 2019 was Facebook Messenger. A new survey found that TikTok, which ranked fourth in 2019, rose to number one in 2020. In addition, it is reported that the total playing time of TikTok in the US and UK exceeds that of YouTube.

As of 2019, the most downloaded apps in the world were Facebook Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram. However, in a new survey conducted by App Annie, which provides market data and analysis tools for apps, TikTok took the top spot in 2020, followed by Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.

Since ByteDance launched its global version in 2017, TikTok has continued to expand globally. Meanwhile, as concerns about the handling of personal information by TikTok increased, in 2020, then-US President Trump ordered a ban on TikTok downloads and TikTok delivery was banned in India. As a result, the TikTok page has been removed from the Google Play Store. In June 2021, President Biden withdrew Trump’s decree and resumed delivery in the U.S., increasing downloads. But India still bans delivery as a national security threat. Related information can be found here.
