Qualcomm drone platform supporting 5G and 8K shooting

Qualcomm announced the Flight RB5 5G, an unmanned aerial vehicle development-based platform aircraft. Drones are used in various fields from industry to hobby, but the role of Flight RB5 5G is centered on providing communication technology and AI-related processing developers.

The QRB5165 to be installed is based on the Snapdragon 865, a processor for mobile devices such as smartphones, and is equipped with a Kryo 585 CPU and Adreno 650 GPU. AI processing such as machine learning is supported by the Hexagon Tensor Accelerator (HTA) installed in the Hexagon 698 DSP. Developers can use development kits provided by Qualcomm, including neural processing, computer vision, and multimedia applications.

The ISP is equipped with Qualcomm Spectra 480, so it is possible to record 200 million pixel images, 8K resolution video, or 4K HDR 120FPS video. As a communication function, it supports 5G communication including fast millimeter wave and Wi-Fi 6. According to Qualcomm, this drone can be applied to various industries such as video and entertainment, security, emergency response, delivery and inspection, and mapping.

The Flight RB5 5G is priced at $500 and the version without 5G is $400. It is expected to ship by the end of the third quarter of this year.

Qualcomm announced the RB5, a robot development kit that supports 5G in 2020 and can also be applied to drones. In July, the company is making significant efforts to build its own product ecosystem, such as announcing Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders. Related information can be found here.
