Ducati begins production of post-war radar-equipped motorcycles

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has announced that it has launched the world’s first motorcycle with post-war radar, the Multistrada V4. This motorcycle is equipped with a radar system jointly developed by Ducati and Bosch, and the front and rear radar is small and weighs only 190g, so it has little effect on driving.

The front of the two radars is used to provide the motorcycle with adaptive cruise control. This function can be used when the motorcycle is traveling at 30-160 km/h and automatically maintains the distance from the vehicle in front.

The rear radar is used for blind spot detection, that is, blind spot detection. It monitors the direction invisible to the rider and warns if there is a vehicle approaching at a speed exceeding a certain speed.

Although Ducati has not yet revealed the detailed specifications of the Multistrada V4, it is said that the maintenance cycle has been greatly improved by mounting a completely redesigned engine. The official announcement is scheduled for November 4th.

Meanwhile, Bosch announced that it is supplying this radar system for motorcycles to KTM in addition to Ducati during EICMA 2019, the Milan motorcycle show in 2019. In addition, BMW Motorrad announced at the end of June that it would soon start providing radar-based ACC functions to motorcycles. Related information can be found here.
