Spotify is ranked #1 in the streaming music service sector. In April, it surpassed 100 million members, but the membership growth rate in 2018 slowed to 25%. On the other hand, Amazon Music Unlimited has about 60 million members, but it increased by 70% last year.
Amazon is selling Echo speakers that support Alexa, an AI voice assistant function, and Amazon Music has also increased the number of users to accommodate Echo. According to an Amazon Music official, 14% of Amazon Music users are aged 55 or older. In the case of Spotify, only 5% of the elderly are in the market, but this age group is driving growth in Amazon Music.
Also, for Amazon Prime members, Amazon Music Unlimited offers a monthly discount from $10 to $8. Echo speaker users can use this service for $4 per month. In addition, Amazon Prime members offer Prime Music, where you can listen to 1 million songs for free, so it seems that there are many users who use it first and then naturally upgrade to Unlimited.
While Spotify and Apple Music are competing, Amazon Music is building a top three composition by increasing the elements of attracting new members. Related information can be found here .
