Google Photos displays the shooting location on the map

On June 25 (local time), Google announced a renewal of Google Photos, a cloud storage service for photos and videos that can be used for free and unlimited. In addition to improving the application logo design, this update adds a function that automatically plays video files and displays photos and videos on a map.

The Google Photos icon, which used to look like a windmill made of origami, has been changed to an abstract and round windmill icon through this update. As symbolized by the logo design change, this update includes new features focused on helping you find memorable photos and videos at a glance.

Memories, located at the top of the Photos tab, appeared before, but so far they have been round and small icons. In this update, it was marked large. In addition, the displayed photo and video thumbnails were enlarged, and the space between the thumbnails was reduced. The video is automatically played in the state of a thumbnail so that you can know which scene it is.

In the search tab, a map view function has been added that displays the location of photos and videos on a map. It is said that this was one of the most received requests since Google Photos came out. Through the map view, you can find photos taken at a travel destination or hometown at a glance. This feature allows the app to use location information by selecting smartphone location information, or manually adding location information to photos and videos.

The library tab contains functions such as albums, favorites, archives, and trash. In addition, for North American and EU users, a shortcut to the store that prints desired photos was also added. The newly designed Google Photos update will be delivered through both Android and iOS. Related information can be found here .
