In June, Maxime Béland, co-founder and vice president, resigned from Ubisoft’s Toronto office, who caused violence and sexual harassment to female employees.
Ubisoft announced on July 11 (local time) that Maxim Belland and some of its executives (Yannis Mallat, Serge Hascoët, Cécile Cornet) will retire. Four executives were retired within weeks of starting a rigorous investigation to respond to allegations and accusations of cheating or inappropriate behavior.
Belland was an executive who led the development of Ubisoft’s popular games such as Rayman and Assassin’s Creed. Meanwhile, reports have reported that more than 100 employees at Ubisoft’s Toronto office have signed a letter stating that they have serious concerns about sexual harassment or personal danger in the studio.
Through the presentation, Ubisoft explained that it is impossible for Maxim Velland to remain in its current position, even if it is an environment where employees, partners, and local communities can take pride in the value of Ubisoft and for a safe environment for all.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has pledged to bring reforms across the company to improve workplace culture, reflecting on his neglect of his obligation to ensure a safe and inclusive work environment for his employees. Related information can be found here .
