AMD held an online event on October 29 and announced the Radeon RX6800, RX 6800 XT, and RX 6900 XT, graphics cards with RDNA2 GPUs. Among them, the Radeon RX 6800 XT, the top model, has almost the same performance as its rival, Nvidia’s RTX3080, while suppressing price and power consumption.
The Radeon RX6000 series is equipped with Navi 21, a GPU that adopts the RDNA2 architecture. The RDNA2 architecture has 50% higher performance per watt than the previous generation RDNA architecture, and 125% higher compared to the Graphics Core Next. The manufacturing process adopted TSMC 7nm, but it is not known whether the N7+ applied EUV lithography.
It adopted the same 7nm manufacturing process as the previous-generation RDNA structure, but the design was optimized and the operating frequency increased by 30%. In addition, Radeon software is equipped with Rage Mode, which allows you to overclock with one click. In addition, it contributes to lower power consumption by complementing the L3 cache memory bandwidth, such as the Infinity Cache CPU Zen3 architecture, which was first installed in the RDNA2 architecture.
If you run the game at 4K resolution on the RX 5700 XT adopting the RDNA architecture, the maximum FPS will be about twice as much. AMD is also designing a next-generation RDNA3 architecture and is expected to announce it in 2022.
Anyway, the Radeon RX 6000 series is the graphics card equipped with Navi 21 designed with RDNA2 architecture. When calculating 4K gaming with the cheapest models, the Radeon RX 6800 and NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti, the Radeon RX 6800 outperforms its class as a result of comparing the maximum FPS. In addition, the Radeon RX 6800’s result is the use of a feature called Smart Access Memory that allows direct access to graphics memory from the CPU. Smart Access Memory can be used in combination with AMD’s CPU Radeon 5000 series.
In addition, when comparing the Radeon RX 6800’s top model XT and NVIDIA RTX 3080 with 4K games, the performance is said to be almost the same. However, the Radeon RX 6800 XT emphasizes that it is superior in price/performance because it has lower power consumption and lower price than the RTX 3080. Radeon RX 6800 XT using smart access memory and boosting in lazy mode, it added that 4K gaming performance could be obtained that exceeds RTX 3080.
In addition, Radeon Boost can be combined with FreeSync to reduce latency. For example, if you measure the lag when playing Epic Games’ Fortnite PC version at 4K resolution, combining FreeSync with Radeon Anti-Lag reduces the 63 millisecond delay to 55 milliseconds. When combined with Radeon Boost, it was reduced to 40 milliseconds and succeeded in reducing delay by a whopping 37%.
The Radeon RX 6000 series complies with DirectX Ultimate. With AMD FidelityFX, game surface detail or shading can be significantly improved at low cost. The Radeon RX 6800 costs $579 and the XT costs $649. The 6900 XT also costs $999. Related information can be found here .
