Volvo has announced that it will take orders for heavy electric trucks in Europe from 2021 and start mass production in 2022. Volvo is currently testing three large electric trucks: FH, FM and FMX. It is a truck with a maximum of 44 tons and a maximum cruising distance of 300 km, covering the use of local transportation and urban construction.
Volvo said that reducing the burden on the environment from logistics requires rapid migration of alternative energy. As the conditions for market transition vary greatly depending on the type of subsidy, charging infrastructure maintenance, and transportation business, various driving type trucks will be mixed during the migration period. Looked out. Accordingly, Volvo plans to provide comprehensive solutions such as charging facilities and finance that provide the same maneuverability, safety and reliability for various devices such as gasoline, diesel, and electricity, and support electricity conversion.
However, the range of 300 km for electric trucks is too short for long-distance trucks. Therefore, Volvo plans to introduce large long-distance trucks that combine batteries and hydrogen fuel cells in stages. Volvo plans to abolish fossil fuel cars by 2040.
Speaking of large electric trucks, there is Tesla Semi announced by Tesla, but production has been postponed to 2021. It comes out a bit faster than the Volvo’s heavy electric truck, but the Tesla Semi is for medium-haul transport and doesn’t overlap with Volvo’s construction applications.
