500 EV chargers in the U.S.’plug in to pay’

Electrify America, a Volkswagen subsidiary that builds 500 public EV fast-charging networks nationwide, has a Plug & Charge function that completes payment processing by simply plugging in an electric vehicle, all of its 2,200 chargers. Deployed on.

According to the company, the plug-and-charge function communicates with the connected electric vehicle to identify, authenticate, and charge customer registration accounts while charging. The owner of the electric vehicle does not need to worry about payment methods or card conditions by simply connecting the charging connector. This charger specification was announced in early 2019, and distribution was completed nearly a year later due to Corona 19 this year.

However, electric vehicles that support the plug-and-charge function include Porsche Taycan, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Lucid Air, but all of them have yet to be released. In the case of the Taycan, it will be supported from the 2021 model.

Meanwhile, Electrify America plans to install 800 charging stations and 3,500 DC fast chargers by December 2021. Related information can be found here .
